At this point, my partner and I are continuing to work on the content of the book. I finally convinced Ananya to open the document since the end of the first trimester, which was three months ago! In biomedical innovation class, she finally touched the document we have made months ago, and she started writing a bunch of tips. After that, I started to have hope again! If she could write so much in ten minutes, we could get so much work done together if we designate the time and place to actually work on it. The biggest problem from the start and still now is finding the time; we are so busy! We have other priorities to take care of first. We were told that the genius project shouldn't have to feel like "extra work", but quite frankly, it seems like another thing we have to check off of our list. With the deadline fast approaching, we are rushing through this rather than having fun writing it and going through this writing journey. We are working together to write helpful tips. I would say we have 25% of each chapter done, and there are 5 chapters total. I think it would realistic for us to finish this project by April 1st, because March 1st is too soon. April 1st is the best goal for us to finish, because we would both be in English 4-B in the same trimester. Unfortunately, we won't be in the same period, but now it is easier to communicate with each other about what we need to do together. Also, we would finish the project 3 weeks before the actual genius forum which is April 25th. Our target finish date of the content is March 22, and we would spend the following week trying to print it. I have discussed about the e-book idea to Ananya, but she still thought printing out a physical copy of the book would be better. However, this time, she did suggest making the book pocket-sized. With this idea, I agreed with her, because the book could have a lot more pages. It was too ambitious of us to think we could finish this project by March 1st; that is literally tomorrow. I believe that we can finish just in time for preparing for the genius project forum.

Today, I got the chance to meet with a professional to talk about my genius project. I discussed what my project was about, and the struggle of being able to finish it on time. Personally, even though I am working with a partner, I feel like I have to pull my weight more. Ananya is busy with other tasks and duties, and I feel guilty for asking her to work on it, considering the amount of pressure she is currently under. So far, we have a google document with two pages worth of content! I am determined to finish the majority of it this weekend. Our original idea was to publish a hard copy version of our book, but after discussing with a professional, she had a fantastic idea. She thought it would be best if I published an electronic book! That would be so much easier! She said that printing books are quite expensive, and it takes a lot time to print the book. Given the time constraint we have, it seems more realistic to publish an e-book rather than a hard copy book. Since I do not have much homework this weekend, I want to finish the two chapters tomorrow (Saturday). I also realized the content does not have to be presented in paragraphs but rather in bullet points. I can put tips in a bullet point format for an easy read. My friend, Valerie Nguyen, also had an idea to incorporate more pictures in the book to utilize more space and make it more visually pleasing. On Sunday, I am going to finish the last chapter. Then, I am going to have Ananya add any more content and edit for grammatical errors. I am not going to lie. This is not going to be a fun weekend, but as I said in my 30-second pitch in English class, I am an ambitious person. I will work hard and put in a lot of effort to succeed. No more procrastination! Now is the time to put down the phone and stop binge-watching shows on Netflix!
Currently, Ananya and I are scrambling to finish our genius project. We had to change our project many times due to special circumstances. Originally, I planned to teach her how to dance for my genius project, and she would teach me how to play the piano. However, over the summer, she got back surgery, so our original idea backfired. We then came up with this new idea of making a youtube channel and post "How-to" videos. That idea did not work out due to our dislike of being in front of camera. Our final idea was to write a book on how to organize. Over our high school career, we have noticed the great amount of stress that our fellow classmates deal with on a daily basis. As a person who has a knack for organizing, I thought it was a unique way to help out my community. We truly believe that organizing plays a huge in academic success, reduces stress levels, and helps you gain a better sense of control. Ananya and I are making an outline of the chapters and the content we are planning to include in our book We plan to write about how to organize school work, bedroom, kitchen, work space and much more. Additionally, we are trying to find a way to obtain the money to print three books (one for me, Ananya, and the library). With our busy and hectic schedules, we are quite worried that we will be unable to have everything done and printed by the target genius project due date, which is March 1, 2019. From this point on, we will dedicate more time working on our book together by meeting up at least one a week to do progress checks on the book. Also, we will try to divide up the tasks and work on certain parts on the book individually. It will be crazy, but there's nothing we can't handle. Ananya and I are determined to get this book done, and we are ecstatic to see how this will turn out!
Pitch: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1llgJB68cVnnSQQB8nFbB7k7_kep8eJDZJ0dFzcqZ9sk/edit?usp=sharing My take-away from the genius project forum and the genius project symposium is to make sure that the project is all based on the passion of what it is all about. If you are passionate with the topic/project, you are able to succeed or accomplish the goals that you made. As of right now, Ananya and I are going to talk about what we are going to and what our plans for the summer are on Friday, May 25th. Originally, I was going to teach her how to dance, but she is going to get back surgery in June. We may need to alter our plans or change the whole project entirely. We still want to work together.
I have decided to work with my friend, Ananya Thyagarajan on this Genius Project. At first, I planned to teach her how to dance, and she would teach me how to play the piano. However, after some deliberation, we realized we wanted to make a bigger impact on the community. We are still debating if we should present our project by a showcase or some kind of concert. Additionally, Ananya and I wanted to connect our own passions (dancing and piano) to something we want to do in the future. Ananya wants to pursue a career in biology, and I want to be a doctor. Ananya figured we would donate any funds for a health-sciences/biology institution. The speed-dating was very helpful for us, because it made us think more about what was our goal and what was the outcome we wanted to see when we "finish" the project. It beneficial for us to explain our idea over and over again, because it made us reevaluate the possibility of the project being successful. Ideally, I want to finalize our idea by mid-February, so we can start on our project.
I have a good general idea of what I want to do. I know I want to do something that involves dance. The reason why I want to pick this idea, because dance allows me to escape reality and express my inner thoughts without saying a single word. I want to somehow form a project based around this idea and share it with the world. As a teenager, I, like many others, encounter many ups and downs that life has thrown. Dance was the perfect outlet and served as my therapy when needed.
If I could brainstorm my idea with anyone in the world, it would be Misty Copeland. She is one of the most notable and well-known ballerinas in the world. Copeland started dancing at the age of thirteen and was known to be a dancing prodigy ever since. Throughout her career, she donated to many organizations and gave back to the community. She would be the perfect person to talk to. I believe Copeland would advise me to think more about community impact, because it would be the most important aspect of this whole project. I wouldn't know where to go to brainstorm. Ideas just come and go wherever I am. Also, a specific location may give me a specific idea, so I try to go to many places as possible where I am able to really think and reflect. |
